THE ARTISAN PROCESS & DESIGN
- Wheel-thrown & trimmed: Individually shaped on the potter's wheel, then precision-trimmed by hand at the leather-hard stage.
- Stucco slip-transfer texture: While the clay is still wet, a signature newsprint slip-transfer technique builds up layered, organic textures reminiscent of historic, weathered stucco walls.
- Antiqued & hand-painted details: After the first firing, a dark wash is applied and wiped back to highlight the deep exterior texture. The signature cherry blossom motif is then hand-painted directly onto the raw clay, left intentionally unglazed on the exterior for a rich, tactile finish.
- Shino glazed interior: Finished with a shino glaze for warmth and organic character, contrasting against the rustic exterior.
- Firing & hand-sanded finish: Fired in an electric oxidation kiln for lasting durability. After the final firing, the unglazed exterior is wet-sanded by hand for a smooth feel against the textured surface.
Made by hand in small batches in my Denver studio — no AI, no mass production, just one potter shaping every piece.
