Hand painted plum flower mug w/matte red glazed interior.
Details:
~ Matte red glaze inside
My process:
I make this tea bowl on the potters wheel and once the rim is dry enough to support itself, I turn it over and trim the bottom. Then while it is still very wet, I apply slip to newsprint paper that is transferred on to the pot. This allows me create a textured appearance. After the base layer of slip, I apply red slip to cut out paper flowers and then transfer the flowers on to the pot. After it comes out of the first firing, I apply a black wash for an antiquing appearance to the outside of the pot and a matte red glaze to the inside. Then after the wash, I paint the center of the flowers on and then the pot it is left unglazed on the outside. Then the tea bowl goes back in the kiln the for its second and final firing. After it comes out of the glaze kiln, the outside of the tea bow is then wet sanded for a super smooth finish.
