I use the potter's wheel to create this cup. I generally make the cup one day and trim the bottom foot the next day and attach the handle. After letting the handle set up and dry a day or so slowly, I clean up around the handle and make sure the cup is smooth all around. I then let it dry completely and then I apply a red slip to the inside and a white slip on the outside. This gives me a vibrant canvas to paint red cherry blossoms on. I've been on a long two year journey with this design to get the cherry blossoms perfected. A clear glaze finishes the cup, inside and out and is fired in an electric oxidation kiln.
