My process:
Something fun and different! I use the potter's wheel to create this tea bowl. The tea bowl is thrown thick, then the sides are trimmed off while the clay is still wet on the wheel to reveal facets. The next day the pot is turned upside down and the bottom trimmed using a chuck since the rim ends up wavy from the faceting. One the pot is bone dry, I sponge it clean inside and out then paint cherry blossoms on the outside and add a red slip to the inside. Then it goes into the kiln for its first firing. A clear glaze finishes the tea bowl on the inside and back in the kiln it goes. When it comes out, the tea bowl is sanded smooth using 400, 800, and 1500 grit diamond pad sandpaper for a super silky finish. Made from high fire grolleg porcelain and fired in an electric oxidation kiln.
